In one way or another, it seems that the twice corner All-Pro Jaire Alexander and the Green Bay Packers are heading to a division.
General manager Brian Gutekunst was not a commitment on Alexander’s future when he spoke with journalists on Tuesday at the NFL Scouting combines in Indianapolis, but the sources confirmed on Wednesday that the team is willing to listen to commercial offers.
NFL Network reported that Packers have already had commercial conversations about Alexander.
“We have never allowed agents to go out and talk to the teams,” Gutekunst told Combine journalists. “I think that is a kind of [one of the] Those who probably happen anyway. And Jaire has a great agent. If we ever followed that route, I think it would be very easy to work with him and his team. I really don’t expect that, but we’ve never done that.
“I think it’s something that if we were going to change a player, we would do that and it would be the conversation between the other team.”
Alexander, 28, has played in just seven games in each of the last two seasons due to several injuries and a suspension of a game for harmful behavior for the team. He underwent knee surgery to repair a PCL injury at the end of the season and could not return even if the Packers had done the Super Bowl, Gutekunst said.
It is expected to recover completely and be ready to play this next season.
The 2018 First Round National Team has two years with a four -year contract and $ 84 million that, at that time, made it the best paid corner in the NFL. However, that agreement does not contain more guaranteed money. Any team that exchanged could also renegotiate the terms currently required to pay $ 17.5 million in 2025 and $ 19.5 million in 2026.
The Packers would collect $ 6.8 million in salary space if they changed it early this low season. They could collect more space in the lid if they released it with a designation after June.
There have been strong indications since the late last season that Alexander’s time in Green Bay could end. Multiple team sources have expressed in private their frustration with Alexander’s inability to stay healthy and/or play through injuries.
Alexander refused to talk to journalists on the last day of availability of the media at the end of the season, saying that he had “nothing good to say” and that he did not know if he would return with the team in 2025.
“We will see; we are working on that,” Gutekunst said on Tuesday when he was asked if Alexander will be on the team is next season. “Certainly it could be, but I think we will overcome it as we move forward. We have to get it out now. I think we have obviously talked about a lot of frustration on his part. He wants to be there badly, and not being able to be at his best time has frustrated him, and that has frustrated our football team, because we are also well with him.
