FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown tore the ACL, MCL and ACL in his right knee and is scheduled to undergo surgery this week, according to multiple sources.
Significant recovery time will be needed after surgery, sources said.
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas that Overshown would undergo surgery but was unsure when he would return.
Multiple sources said after the Cowboys’ 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals that Overshown’s injury was more than just a torn ACL.
“I don’t know at this point the date and time of his rehab,” Jones said earlier Tuesday, “but I can’t tell you how bad I feel for him because he just went through that physical and mental rehab on his other knee. It is the most difficult moment for a player and we all see the loss and know what it will mean for us in the four games we have left. The bottom line is that it is really sad that he has to undergo this surgery as an individual and obviously us as a player. equipment.”
Overshown was hit on the side of his right leg on a 2-yard run by Chase Brown with 12:49 left in the game. He remained on the field without being able to move his leg until the medical team arrived to treat him. He immediately went to the locker room to be further examined.
Coach Mike McCarthy said after the game that the injury was “serious in nature” and “not good.” Overshown missed his rookie season in 2023 with a torn ACL in his left knee.
“I think the whole band felt that because it didn’t look good,” McCarthy said. “It definitely affected a lot of the guys.”
Running back Micah Parsons had tears in his eyes after the game when talking about Overshown.
“I cried,” he said. “He’s like my little brother, bro. He doesn’t deserve that either. He really doesn’t deserve it. Just understanding what he’s going to go through and being there for him physically and mentally. It’s very challenging because of the year he was having. I really don’t believe That’s not fair either.”
Overshown is the Cowboys’ second-leading tackler and became just the third Cowboy since 1982 to record at least five sacks, an interception (which he returned for a touchdown), a fumble recovery and a forced fumble in the same season. joining DeMarcus Ware. (2006) and Greg Ellis (1999).
“We’re praying for him because, honestly, a lot of us have been hurt,” cornerback Jourdan Lewis said. “We understand what he’s going through. We’ll stay with him because we know he’s a great soccer player.”
Overshown will be the 13th Cowboys player on injured reserve, joining players such as quarterback Dak Prescott and guard Zack Martin, who is scheduled for surgery on his right ankle this week.
