Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the second largest launch in the series, according to sales data supplied to VGC.

Shadows launched in consoles and PC last week, and exceeded two million players in two days, according to an Ubisoft announcement published during the weekend, which said it was higher than Origins and Odyssey.

According to more data seen by VGC, Shadows delivered the second sales income of day 1 in the history of the franchise, only behind Valhalla.

In particular, it was launched in March, when other entries from the series arrived during the most lucrative thanksgiving season, and did not benefit from the pandemic impulse enjoyed by Valhalla.

Shadows marked the best launch of Ubisoft Day 1 in PlayStation Digital Store, was the title of Ubisoft of all wishes of all time, and generated more than 11 million hours observed on Twitch, the strongest beginning for any recent Ubisoft title, including Valhalla.

Significantly, the PC represented around 27% of the total “activations”, which probably covers complete sales and subscription downloads through Ubisoft+, with Steam playing “an important role” in that performance.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the first important game of Ubisoft to launch the first day in Steam since 2019. Previously, the editor prioritized its own digital store, as well as the Epic game store, at the release.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has faced numerous setbacks and problems in the course of its development, including content leaks. Originally planned for its launch last November, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was delayed until February 14, then it was delayed again to March 20.

The shadows also arrive for a crucial moment for the Ubisoft editor. After several low performance and a financial perspective that worsens, Ubisoft said in January that it was taking “decisive measures” to remodel the company and “actively explore several strategic and capitalist options to unlock the potential of total value” of its assets.

It is claimed that Tencent and the Guillemot Founding Founder of Ubisoft are considering the creation of a new company that contains some Ubisoft assets.

In the review of Assassin’s Creed Shadows of VGC, we wrote: “With an excellent game, a convincing narrative and a massive and beautiful world to explore, it is much better than many expected it to be.

“Even if it is not the game that saves Ubisoft, he did exactly what he needed, returning confidence to one of the biggest and problematic franchises of modern games.”
