SANTA CLARA, Calif. — San Francisco 49ers catcher Deebo Samuel is out of the hospital and will be treated for pneumonia.

Samuel was released from a local sanatorium on Tuesday afternoon, a group source told ESPN. On Sunday afternoon he was admitted to the sanatorium and they discovered that he had fluid in his lungs.

“I think it started showing up in the middle of the night on Saturday or early Sunday morning and then evolved as the day went on,” educator Kyle Shanahan said Monday. “Once we found out he had fluid in his lungs and stuff after the game, I think they sent him there.”

Samuel began to feel bad from Saturday until early Sunday morning. He arrived at Levi’s Stadium and the team announced that he was sick but expected to play games about a half hour before kickoff against the Kansas Town Chiefs.

But Samuel was the only one who was able to play four games before leaving the game. He did not return and Shanahan next mentioned that Samuel was having trouble breathing along with throat and abdominal problems.

Shanahan said Monday that he wasn’t sure if Samuel would be available for Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, although there is expected to be more clarity on the matter Wednesday, when the Niners return to practice next Tuesday.

Samuel is considered one of two Niners receivers facing an infection or shock. Brandon Aiyuk’s season is over due to a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee, Jauan Jennings has a hip shock and Chris Conley has a sprained ankle.
