The Field Marshal Jacoby Brissett plans to sign with the Arizona cardinals to support Kyler Murray, a source told Jeremy Fowler of ESPN on Tuesday.
Brissett, 32, started the 2024 season as the head of the New England Patriots field before the coaching staff replaced it in favor of the Draft selection number 3 Drake Maye in week 6.
In week 8, he assumed the position of Maye, who was reviewed by a brain shock, and played the last three quarters in a 25-22 victory over the New York Jets. Brissett described him as one of his most proud moments of a challenging season, since he designed a winning trip in the last minutes of regulation.
The 95th season of 161 ended for 826 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception, and the coaches attributed it to Maye, racing the way for the rookie to begin the last 12 games of the season and experience success in the early race.
The Brissett of 6 feet 4 inches and 235 pounds entered the NFL as an option in the Draft of the Third Round of the Patriots in 2016. He was with the Indianapolis Colts from 2017 to 2020, before joining the Miami Dolphins (2021), Cleveland Browns (2022), Commanders of Washington (2023) and Patriots (2024).
In 2024, Brissett had longed for the opportunity to start, but did not receive much support, since the Patriots had five different initial offensive line configurations in front of him, and one of the least friendly receiving bodies of the NFL. The statistics in the game were recorded with 49 hits in their first five openings when the Patriots opened the year 1-4.
In general, Brissett has appeared in 87 regular seasonal games, with 53 openings. It has completed 61.1% of its passes (1,076 of 1,761) for 11,400 yards, with 53 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.
