The social media app TikTok was banned in the US today and it turns out so was the popular online card game Marvel Snap.
So unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that TikTok has been facing a possible ban in the US for a long time if it doesn’t sell, but as of today, considering it didn’t happen, the app now it has been banned. The reasons behind this are a bunch of nonsense, obviously (as if local sites like Facebook aren’t a national security concern), but hey, there’s not much you can do. However, it turns out that there has been an unexpected effect: Marvel Snap has also been banned. You might quickly think it’s a little strange to be lumped in with the world’s fourth-largest social media app, but it’s actually due to the fact that the game‘s publisher, Nuverse, is owned by ByteDance, ditto. company that owns TikTok.
Marvel Snap developer Second Dinner appears to be as surprised as you are by the news, sharing a statement on Twitter: “Unfortunately, Marvel Snap is temporarily unavailable in the US app stores and is not available to play in the US In a surprise for Second Dinner, Dinner and our Nuverse publisher, Marvel Snap, were hit by the TikTok crash late on Saturday, January 18. Marvel Snap is not going anywhere. so that the game is available as soon as possible and We will update once we do. I have more to share.”
Upon launching the app, a message will also appear stating that the game is “currently unavailable,” again assuring players that they are working to restore the app in the US. I can’t tell you how neither Second Dinner nor its publisher, Nuverse, were not even slightly aware that it would also be banned, but if you’re an avid gamer, you’ll have to wait in the meantime.
