Sony has apologized to Australian gamers after it cleared Hotline Miami 2: Mistaken Volume to be playable on PlayStation consoles after it was denied classification in 2015.
Despite controversially failing to retain the Australian Classification Board due to sexual violence issues, the game was playable on the rest of PlayStation Plus and through Hotline Miami Assortment for up to 365 days.
Press-Get began reporting that during an email to consumers who had purchased the game, Sony said: “We are now aware that the product Hotline Miami 2: Mistaken Quantity has not obtained an appropriate rating from the Australian Therefore , the rating board and the feature have taken steps to refund consumers who purchased the game.
“We have issued a refund of the full purchase price of the product to your original payment method. This may take up to 30-60 days to appear on your bank statement. If your original payment source is not available, we will refund the amount of the purchase to your PlayStation Network wallet.”
The company later apologized “for any inconvenience caused.”
Similarly, PlayStation also wrote to players who had accessed the game through the PlayStation Plus library, informing them that it had “taken steps” to remove the product from customers’ libraries.
In response to our sister site Eurogamer’s request for comment, publisher Devolver Virtual shared a screenshot of the game in which the text read: “The good times never last.”
