Samsung has launched a free mobile gaming platform on its Galaxy devices in North America.
The mobile device maker has been testing the streaming service in beta since last year using a game Launcher app, now rebranded as Samsung gaming Hub.
There will be 23 games available at launch, including free-to-play hits like Monopoly Go, Candy Crush Saga, Homescapes and Honor of Kings.
All games will be available for free, as stated by Samsung’s vice president and head of game services, Jong Woo. GameIndustry.biz: “Unlike other cloud services, there is no content secured behind a paywall or monthly subscriptions for users to access these games through our cloud streaming technology.”
Games are accessed through links distributed through Galaxy Store listings, Samsung gaming Hub, or advertisements. Galaxy Store, which comes pre-installed on all Samsung phones and tablets, will act as a launch client.
Samsung claims that 50% of players who clicked on an ad or listing for a mobile cloud game during the beta played the linked title.
Woo added that he believes the lack of friction that cloud gaming provides, with no downloads required, will help Samsung “significantly disrupt the way game publishers scale their mobile games.”
The electronics firm has already ventured into the cloud gaming space through its Smart TVs through a key partnership with Xbox, as well as other services such as Boosteroid.
It previously experimented with a game streaming service for PC and select Galaxy hardware called PlayGalaxy Link, but it was shut down even before its launch.
