Saints CB Marshon Lattimore and Kool-Aid McKinstry out against Panthers

METAIRIE, L.a. — The unused Orleans Saints (2-6) will continue their matchup against the Carolina Panthers (1-7) without three core cornerbacks, including a new line for surprise factor. That has hampered the team for much of the season.

Outside cornerbacks Marshon Lattimore and Kool-Assistance McKinstry were ruled out with hamstring issues, and cornerback Paulson Adebo recently went on the injured list with a season-ending femur injury. That leaves Alontae Taylor, who used to be the team’s No. 1 cornerback until Adebo was injured, as the only healthy option left on the roster.

The Saints could simply rely on defensive back Ugo Amadi or rookie defensive back Rico Payton, who is questionable with a back bruise but is expected to play in games this time, according to Saints coach Dennis Allen.

The Saints have dealt with a long list of injuries going forward, but have recently had several players returned for the most part, including guard Cesar Ruiz (knee), linebacker Pete Werner (hamstring), tight end Taysom Hill (rib). ) and big receiver Chris Olave (concussion).

“We have been doing studies [on injuries]obviously this year we are high. Last year we were probably close to the league average in terms of soft tissue injuries, missed time and all that kind of stuff,” Allen said. “The first year we were way above average, meaning better. This year we’ve certainly had a few more of those. “There are some things we’re going to do to see if we can’t find a way to minimize that.”

The Saints suffered several new injuries in that time.

Running back Kendre Miller injured his hamstring on Sunday and is out this time, while running back Jamaal Williams is considered unsafe this time with a groin shock. Wide receiver Bub Way sprained his ankle on Sunday and could be out this time.

Prep quarterback Derek Carr is expected to play all but three games in an indirect upset.

“I hope that has a big positive impact. I thought this week in practice, I thought offensively we looked really good. My hope is that that carries over into the game,” Allen said. “I think every time a player like Derek comes back, someone with experience, he’s broken through a lot of obstacles throughout his career. Being able to get communication, everyone aligns, making sure everyone is on the same page, I” “I think that will improve with a veteran quarterback there.”
