Robocraft 2 developer Freejam has closed.
In a statement posted on Discord, the studio blamed “market conditions” and the costs of keeping servers running on Robocraft 2, which will now be discontinued, along with its predecessor Robocraft and Cardlife.
The sequel has already been removed from Steam, where it was available as an early access title.
“It is with a heavy heart that we have to tell everyone that we are ceasing production on Robocraft 2 and closing Freejam as a studio,” said one of the developers in a statement posted on Discord.
“With current market conditions and the server costs required to keep a game like RC2 running, we simply cannot launch or sustain development. We will spend some time decommissioning Robocraft 1 and 2, as well as Cardlife in the coming weeks.
“Freejam has been a family to all of us and you have been a part of it,” the statement added. “Your feedback and thoughts have always propelled us forward, but beyond this, the passion of the community is a big part of what has made working on Freejam a pleasure.” […] Your time, energy, support and so much patience have made a huge difference. From all of us at Freejam, thank you so much for joining us on this journey.”
It’s unclear how many will be affected by the closure, but the studio’s LinkedIn page suggests it employs between 11 and 50 people from its headquarters in Portsmouth, UK.
The news comes as Swedish gaming company Enad Global 7 (EG7) also initiated the “shutdown” of Toadman Interactive, resulting in the loss of 69 jobs and laying off 38 Piranha Games employees.
In the first two weeks of 2025 alone, more than 150 developers lost their jobs, including cuts to Splash Damage and Jar of Sparks.
