Rare Offers New Look at Xbox Exclusive Missing in Action

Rare has released the first new Everwild art in almost three years, suggesting it could ramp up marketing ahead of the game‘s 2025 release.

Rare announced the new IP in November 2019 and released another trailer in July 2020, but updates to the game since then have been rare.

However, fans finally got a new look at the game this week, via Rare’s Instagram holiday card, which features holiday-themed Everwild art.

In 2021, VGC sources with knowledge of Everwild’s development stated that the game‘s design had essentially been “restarted from scratch”, meaning that it would likely be several years before its release.

At the time, VGC sources claimed that Everwild’s development team was “optimistically” targeting a 2024 release for the game, which would mark a decade of development for Everwild, which spent many years creating experimental prototypes ( obviously, this target date has since been pushed back).

Responding to an advance copy of our story, Everwild executive producer Louise O’Connor confirmed elements of the report, including the appointment of designer Gregg Mayles as its new creative director.

Then-Xbox game Studios head Matt Booty later said that Rare’s Everwild team wanted to make sure it had “something special” before showing the game publicly again.
