Quinn Ewers declares for 2025 NFL Draft: Scouting report, pro comparison, NFL landing spots for Texas QB

Quinn Ewers burst onto the college scene with great enthusiasm, as one of the highest-rated recruits in modern memory. After a brief stint at Ohio State, he returned home to Texas, where he has been the Longhorns’ starter for the next three seasons. In 2023, he was an integral part of Texas’ advance to the College Football Playoff, where they were one jump away from advancing to the national team.

The Longhorns returned to the CFP this next season, advancing to the semifinals again before falling to Ohio State. Lower than a next occasion, Ewers announced that he has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Below is a complete draft profile for Ewers, including his scouting history, chances score, school stats and accolades, career comparisons, top NFL touchdown spots and more.

NFL Comparison: Davis Turbines (Texans)

player's headshot

Like Ewers, Turbines was a highly touted contract who played local school football, but he never quite lived up to the towering expectations aligned with his recruiting score. Turbines and Ewers have high-caliber palms, although not super, and on shorter stretches can look like promising entrants. But the ability to briefly learn coverages and adapt has not fully evolved. Also, like Turbines, Ewers’ ability to build with his legs occurs occasionally and only in extreme situations, plus accuracy is not a true power for his games.

NFL touchdown locations

  • Cleveland Brown: We have no idea what the Browns plan to do at quarterback in 2025 and beyond, and because of his arm ability, Ewers has the potential to grow in the NFL. If he can sit behind Watson for a presentation, there is a glimmer of hope that he can mature into a property passer within the NFL.
  • Las Vegas Raiders: Not in Round 1 like at the beginning of the draft, but when the Raiders, a club with a big quarterback need, want to double-dip in the 2025 draft, Ewers could be a good pick next.
  • Los Angeles Rams. Matthew Stafford is overdue, however, approaching 30 years old. Ewers is generally a possibility for Sean McVay and Co.

exploration document

Quinn Ewers is an undersized quarterback with some major ego under his belt, a factor that can work both for and against him. He has the ability to throw the ball with a three-quarter cut without difficulty at all levels of the field and offers small flashes of greater accuracy when working in gun mode. Although his arm is not elite, it is still an unclouded power in his profile. On the other hand, Ewers’ ball placement showed thorough growth over his three years as a starter, with a reasonable variety of misses at all levels. His overall accuracy will have to improve if he wants to succeed to the nearest degree. His footwork is continually confusing, particularly when coming out of his draft position. Even assuming you possess the arm ability to push the ball vertically in such situations, your accuracy tends to falter significantly. Much of his offense relies on alternate single displays and completions, and he has shown a tendency to run out of words through coverages. He is nothing more than a particularly expert reader in the entire field. To some extent, Ewers became more agile as his occupation improved, improving his ability to escape attackers in the patch and adding minutes to his game. That said, he won’t be a lethal dual-threat quarterback at the NFL level. Physical characteristics are provided, but this is still a raw quarterback opportunity at this level of his building.

Recognitions

  • Occupation: Third in class history in passing yards (9,128) and passing touchdowns (68)
  • Two-time second-team conference (Bulky 12 in 2023 and SEC in 2024)
  • 2023: Bulky 12 Championship MVP

Strengths

  • The arm ego allows you to spin the ball from any platform or arm attitude.
  • Competitive pitcher, needs to push it vertically.
  • He added some fluidity to his recreation as his university occupation improved; an affordable athlete now

Weaknesses

  • Overall accuracy can be very unpredictable
  • Doesn’t seem to be a super skilled protection reader
  • Misses simple, obvious throws too regularly.
