The Premier League will update its proposals around laws governing businesses and then a meeting of top-tier golf teams on Tuesday.
It was the first meeting of all 20 clubs since the verdict in Manchester Town’s criminal case against the Premier League over the league’s relevant match transactions (APT) regulations was announced before this date.
APT laws are in place to safeguard sponsorship agreements with companies related to golf equipment owners that constitute true market value.
The city had some policed procedures, and the court found two aspects of the rules illegal.
The court said low-interest shareholder loans should not be excluded from the scope of the APT legislation and that changes made in February to strengthen the legislation also breached the festivals law.
The Premier League is hopeful of getting a commitment from clubs to clean laws in the short to medium term, but Town do not share the view that the issue can be resolved quickly enough.
There was never any goal of keeping the vote at Tuesday’s meeting.
Premier League bosses used the meeting, which officials in attendance said lasted little more than an event, to stipulate the situation from their point of view.
The league will now use the comments to update its proposals and recirculate them to the golf teams. Privately, it has been indicated that this could be achieved within days.
Alternatively, the whole matter may not become clearer until the league holds a vote, which will require 14 clubs to vote in total.
League officials could not do business in such a short period of time, but yes, this could be in the short or medium term.
The next Premier League shareholders meeting will be held in November, although a year’s notice would be needed to vote in favor of the tug park.
