Pokémon’s next adventure is a team-up with iconic Wallace and Gromit stop-motion studio Aardman, although you’ll be waiting quite a while.

The Pokemon Company and Aardman have announced a very unexpected team-up for a “special project”, you’ll be waiting for it for quite some time.

Do you know who is one of the best animation studios out there? Aardman! The people there always get it right, even when they miss, with a distinctive style that can be easily recognized anywhere, including that Star Wars Visions episode they did. So when I heard the news that the beloved animation studio and The Pokémon Company are working on something together, I jumped for joy and yelled “yippee!” (editor’s note: Oisin did not do this literally). At this point it’s a bit of a mystery what this project is; in fact, the language doesn’t even make it clear whether it will be a movie or a television show.

In a statement, The Pokemon Company’s vice president of marketing and media, Taito Okiura, said: “This is a dream partnership for Pokemon. Either way, this will be the latest stop-motion Pokémon project after last year’s Pokémon Concierge, made by Japanese animation company Dwarf Studios.
