PlayStation 5 enjoyed its best holiday period in 2024 and has now eliminated 75 million units sent, Sony announced Thursday.
In the company’s financial results for the three months ended December 31, 2024, Sony reported sales of 9.5 million PS5 consoles, the best quarter of the PS5 era and only 0.2 million behind the PlayStation 4 peak in the third in the third quarter in fiscal year 2017.
The aligned launch, PlayStation 5 is now only 1.5 million units behind where PlayStation 4 was during the same period if its life cycle (76.5 million units).
Despite launching an important first-part game in the previous fiscal year in the form of Marvel Spider-Man 2, operational income increased by 37% year after year, to approximately $ 766 million, which is a new record for a third quarter. Sony said that this was partly due to third -party games, subscriptions and microtransactions, and greater hardware profitability.
Monthly active users on all platforms also increase by 43% to 129 million users compared to the same point as the PS4 generation (90 million users). This has increased 5% year -on -year and the highest in the history of PlayStation.
Sony reported that sales for their game and network services division increased by 12% year -on -year, to about $ 761 million. As a result, its sales income prognosis increased by 3% for the current fiscal year, which ends in April 2025.
The income from Sony network services, which covers the income of PS Plus and advertising, increased by 28% year -on -year. Software sales (PS4 and PS5) increased 6.2 million year after year, to 95.9 million units. Digital software represented 74% of games sales, compared to 66% last year.
