Unfavorable news: Season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is not likely to include the game mode Gunfight, which is a fan favorite.
Players are incensed that Gunfight will not return to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in the Season 2 update, according to a Call of Duty insider. Some of the decisions made for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have already angered series fans.
A 2v2 game mode called “Gunfight” was first featured in Modern Warfare in 2019. While the game mode was still present in Black Ops: Cold War, it was dropped from Call of Duty Vanguard, and since then, fans have been clamoring for its return. Since then, the developers have confirmed that Gunfight will return in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but they only gave an approximate time frame. Similar to this, Warzone 2 players who have spent time in the DMZ mode are upset about the DMZ progress reset for Season 2.
A full roadmap of the Season 2 content will be unveiled by Infinity Ward on February 8 according to a report from Call of Duty insider CharlieINTEL on February 2. CharlieINTEL provided a quick and direct “no” in response to a fan who responded “Gunfight” with the crossed-fingers emoji. Reddit user Lumenprotoplasma quickly broke the bad news to the community, where disgruntled viewers have continued the conversation. A user commented that Gunfight is being held back so that players will keep playing until its inevitable release, while another user pointed out that player retention may not last that long if the favorite game modes are not available. Commenters have been debating the benefits and drawbacks of holding back fan favorite content. Although Infinity Ward has addressed a few bugs in the recent Modern Warfare 2 patch, it seems as though the game’s biggest problem comes down to understanding the community.
A different user made the comment that Gunfight should be easy to incorporate into the game but that Activision is more interested in the usual money-making cosmetics than giving fans what they want. Like Gunfight, Infected has been requested by fans to return to Call of Duty. With such a well-known franchise, it is crucial for developers to pay attention to the audience. However, it should be understood that, even though some decisions are made solely to increase the property’s revenue, sometimes putting those changes into practice is more difficult than it appears on the surface.
The community has not been greatly inspired by the changes that have been made and are still being made, though. While some players can still have a ton of fun, such as one player in Modern Warfare 2 with an impressive win/loss stat but no kills, others feel a little betrayed by the franchise’s apparent stagnation. For the time being, Season 2’s full details will have to be eagerly anticipated on February 8 by fans.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
