Are you desperate to play Resident Evil 6 on modern consoles? No? Well, a new rating suggests you might be able to do it anyway.
I’m not going to sit here and pretend that Resident Evil 6 is a beloved entry in the survival horror series. Which is not! At this point, the games had really jumped the shark, leaning too much towards action and moving away from the survival portion that the series started with. But, no matter how bad it gets, Resident Evil fans almost always love Resident Evil, so some of them may wish they could play it on their Xbox Series X or S. Turns out, they might just get that wish. It appears that on the ESRB website, as spotted by VGC, the game has a new rating specifically for the Xbox Series line of consoles, which obviously includes the X and S.
The rating doesn’t reveal anything in particular, it just explains some of the things that justify its 17+ rating (and notes with slight humor that “the word ‘f**k’ appears in the game“), it’s just the mention of the Xbox series that’s what’s interesting. Resident Evil 6 was originally an Xbox 360 and PS3 title, releasing in 2012 and then receiving Xbox One and PS4 ports in 2016 along with 4 and 5, some graphical upgrades, and all of its DLC. Resident Evil 5 and 6 also received Switch ports in 2019. This new ESRB rating doesn’t mention a PS5 release, but you can probably assume it would get one too, and it would be strange if 6 got a re-release. but 5 did not.
However, this might also be a bit disappointing for some fans, as it seems to imply that it will be another remaster rather than a full remake like other entries in the series have received. There’s not much to do about it! So we’ll all have to wait for Capcom to make an announcement, if there is one.
