Nintendo’s average salary fell in 2024, but remains the second highest paid in the Japanese regional ranking

Nintendo’s average annual salary may have fallen 2.3 percent in 2024, but it remains the second-highest-paying company in western Japan.

As discovered by Automaton, business magazine Diamond Online detailed salary information for companies based in the Kansai region of Japan (without Osaka), revealing that Nintendo employees take home an average salary of 9.627 million yen, i.e. around $61,500 or £50,800.

Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart 9 have been revealed, but questions remain. Watch on YouTube

Nintendo came in second after semiconductor maker Screen Holdings, which had an average salary of 10.248 million yen ($65.5k/£53.7k).

Diamond Online hypothesizes that Nintendo’s average earnings have fallen due to falling net sales and operating profit (by 5.5 and 14.9 percent, respectively) in 2023.

However, by the end of fiscal year 2024, in March 2024, sales were up 4.4 percent and operating profits had recovered 4.9 percent, hinting that the average salary will likely rise for Nintendo employees at the end of this financial year.

Nintendo is the only video game company included on the list.

In case you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few days, Nintendo finally revealed the Switch 2 last week after months of rumors, leaks, and tons of speculation.

We get a first trailer showing the design of the console, which is larger than its predecessor, its revised base, and the first game revealed for the system: a new Mario Kart.

Here’s everything we know so far about the Nintendo Switch 2.
