Nintendo Switch 2 will reportedly fix the original’s biggest flaw

A new report claims that Nintendo’s next console, which will supposedly be called the Nintendo Switch 2, will come with a more powerful dock and magnetic controls that will eliminate stick drift.

In recent weeks, several accessory makers have circulated what are apparently mockups of the final hardware of Nintendo’s next console.

Nintendo has yet to officially reveal its Switch successor, but the company has confirmed plans to do so during its current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025.

Now, a Reddit user who claims to have seen a final retail unit of the machine has said that Nintendo’s next console will be called ‘Nintendo Switch 2’ and will feature a more powerful dock as well as magnetic joycons. Additionally, it is claimed that these joy-cons will eliminate joystick drift.

This is because the new joy-cons supposedly include magnetic Hall-effect joysticks, which do not contain the same deteriorated sensor material that has caused millions of original joy-cons to malfunction.

The Verge reports that it has spoken to NextHandheld and that they are “largely convinced” that the information provided by the user is legitimate.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will reportedly include a dock with two USB-A, one HDMI, one Ethernet, and one USB-C. The USB-C port is almost certainly used for power, like the original Nintendo Switch models.

NextHandheld also claims that the dock is rated at 60W, while the Switch 2 is rated at 45W, suggesting that both elements of the machine are designed to handle significantly more power than the original.

Alleged images of the Nintendo Switch successor surfaced online in September, showing a design that’s not too different from the company’s current-gen console.

While the images are unverified, a source, who had not seen the final Switch 2 console but had been briefed on Nintendo’s plans, told VGC that the images matched what the company had told partners to expect. of its design.

The images also matched previous reports about the Switch 2’s design. Previously, publications like VGC reported that the Switch successor would include a larger 8-inch screen, and a Nintendo patent suggested it would opt for a new magnetic accessory for its controllers. .
