Nintendo discontinues the gold points on the eShop switch, before the release of Switch 2

Nintendo has announced that it will suspend its scheme of gold points at the Switch ESHOP and the official Nintendo website.

As of March 25, 2025, players will no longer be able to win gold points of purchases. The points won before this date will continue to be usable.

The gold points are currently obtained through purchases on the official St. Nintendo website, essentially as a loyalty scheme, and then can be redeemed for a discount.

Advance orders for digital games composed of March 24, 2025 will still win gold points, regardless of the release date of the game (even if the payment occurs after this date). Points will not be granted if the anticipated order is canceled, or if the payment fails. Advance orders after this date will not win points.

The gold points can still be obtained by registering physical games, as long as the game was released on March 24, 2025 (as shown in the ESHOP). The gold points can be obtained up to two years from the original launch date of a game in Europe (one year in other countries).

Finally, the gold points are valid for 12 months from the date of being won, expiring at the end of a calendar month. That means that the gold points won until March 24 can be used to receive a discount at ESHOP for another year.

It is not clear why Nintendo is finishing this scheme, with the announcement simply declaring: “We sincerely thank you for using the My Nintendo Rewards program and apologize for any inconvenience.”

Maybe Nintendo will change to a new equivalent scheme for Switch 2 and is finishing the gold points in advance?

In similar news, Nintendo has declared that Nintendo Switch game coupons cannot be exchanged for Switch 2 exclusive games.

These coupons are available for players with an online membership of Nintendo Switch, which allows them to buy two games of a select list at a discount price, including several exclusive Nintendo games.

“Note that Nintendo Switch game coupons cannot be exchanged for Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games,” the purchase page is read now.

Once again, it is not clear what Nintendo plans are here for Switch 2, but the change is definitely underway.

Nintendo released his switch 2 last month, along with a new Mario Kart. Here is everything we know about Switch 2.
