New PlayStation Portable report backed by Digital Foundry

Digital Foundry has backed up recent claims that Sony is working on a new PlayStation handheld.

Last month, Bloomberg reported that Sony is developing a portable console capable of playing PS5 games.

He stated that the company was in the “early stages” of creating the device, which is still years away from a possible launch.

In a video released Monday, Digital Foundry said it could corroborate some of Bloomberg’s reports.

“What’s interesting about this is that we heard about this handheld a few months ago from a couple of specific sources,” said senior writer John Linneman. “So, we’re not in the business of leaking things, but it’s interesting that this finally started circulating because it just confirmed what we had seen and heard unofficially about this existence, which is cool.

“So to me, this just strengthens the notion that yes, they are working on something. And this article makes it sound like it’s even further away than I actually thought based on that, so I’m not sure where this is going, I think there are possibly prototypes out there. There are still a lot of questions about this, but it seems like the future of offering a portable and home console option is very likely at this point.”

Last month, Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirmed that Microsoft is working on portable gaming prototypes, but claimed that any potential device is still years away.
