Leave Resident Evil behind, Capcom has a precious new pony led by a new version in town, and its name is Onimusha.
Yes, you read that right. Onimusha is back and looking better than ever in Capcom’s frankly obscene REengine. The publisher has rebooted the series – which has been dormant since 2018, incidentally, in terms of console and PC gaming – with a triple-A dark fantasy action game. It certainly seems like it’s taking aim at the Elden Rings, Dark Souls, and Niohs of the world, doesn’t it?
At The game Awards 2024, Capcom surprised the public by showing off a new Onimusha game without any prior teasing or fanfare. In the trailer, we saw some intense third-person action and heard some pretty strange English voices. The game, called Onimusha: Way of the Swordwill arrive in 2026.
Check out the debut below.
It’s been a while since we heard anything about the Onimusha series. The last we saw of Capcom’s esteemed franchise was Onimusha: Warlords, a well-priced remaster of a decent game that built on some of the momentum gained from the nostalgia hype of Resident Evil 2 Remake. A new version of the first game in the series, you can play it on current consoles and PC right now, if you want to get a taste of what to expect from this new title.
As of this writing, the Onimusha series has sold a total of 8.7 million copies worldwide, making it Capcom’s 10th best-selling franchise (behind Monster Hunter, Dead Rising, Dragon’s Dogma, Street Fighter, Mega Man, Resi, DMC and Ace). Lawyer). I wonder how much this new game will push this much-forgotten series up the charts.
We will know in 2026.
