More layoffs at Payload Studios

TerraTech developer Payload Studios has gone through another round of layoffs.

Sources said GameIndustry.biz that eight people were fired, three months after 25% of the study was eliminated. The affected staff were reportedly given one month’s notice and no severance pay.

Payload co-founder and CEO Russell Clarke confirmed that layoffs have occurred, but did not confirm further details.

“It’s true that last week we announced another round of layoffs,” he said. GameIndustry.biz. “This came out of the blue after a project we were confident in didn’t materialize and put us in a very difficult situation. The details, such as managing notice periods and redundancy payments, as well as the number of people will lose their jobs, these are still to be determined, but we had to notify staff last week to give as much notice as possible to everyone who might be affected.

“The situation is changing, so we cannot confirm any specific details, but we aim to provide answers to our staff by the end of this week, as soon as we have them. We are a small studio struggling to survive in a very complicated situation “These are difficult times, but as always, our people are our top priority.”

A source close to the matter further said that one of Payload’s co-founders was allegedly affected by the layoffs, although it is unclear which one.

“I’m afraid so,” Clarke confirmed, although he did not say which founder was affected. “We’re still figuring out the details, but the team moving forward will have to be very agile.”

Payload laid off 25% of its workforce in August, citing “struggles affecting the broader industry” as the reason behind the decision.

The London-based studio was created in 2013 by Clarke and COO Vincent Scheurer.
