You may know who will appear in Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four movie, but an official synopsis finally tells us what they’ll actually be doing.
In February, after a lot of fan casting, hopes, and questions about who the MCU’s Fantastic Four would be, Marvel finally revealed a pretty strong cast. A little while after that, a report surfaced that Julia Garner would be playing fan-favorite character Silver Surfer, although it wasn’t completely confirmed at the time. Now, however, Marvel has confirmed Garner and the character’s involvement, and even released a full official synopsis, so we know roughly what the movie will be about (thanks, IGN).
“Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family: Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet,” reads the Marvel synopsis.
“Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their familial bond, they must defend Earth from a voracious space god named Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). What if Galactus’s plan to devour “The entire planet and all its inhabitants weren’t bad enough, it suddenly becomes very personal.”
Okay, so you could generally assume that’s what the movie is about, but at least it’s good to know for sure. There is no indication that Robert Downey Jr. will appear in the film as Doctor Doom, who he has been confirmed to play in Avengers 5, but given that the Fantastic Four will also appear in the upcoming Avengers films, it would be assumed that it is at least in a post-credits scene.
Fantastic Four: First Steps is currently filming, and the film is scheduled for release on July 25, 2025.
