A mod that puts a playable approach to GTA 6 map in GTA 5 has encountered problems after the Rockstar owner took a request for the copyright to the YouTube channel of its creator.
The MOD, developed by YouTuber Dark Space, was an effort to give life to the GTA 6 map in GTA 5 when building on the work of the Mapping Vice City project, an attempt from the community led by gathering the map of GTA 6 to the scrutiny of all the official media currently launched and combining any discovery with previously leaked map coordinates.
Dark Space began to detail his progress in social networks in January and a launch of version 1.0 of his mod, built from GTA 5 assets, launched last week. However, the project may have already ripped; Dark Space is in which Take-Two’s legal team hit its YouTube channel with a copyright elimination request.
“I spent months building a map inspired by GTA 6 made of fans within GTA 5, something purely made of passion, no profits,” Dark Space wrote in an introduction to a new video detailing the events of the week. “But shortly after uploading a video that shows the project, Take-Two Interactive took it. Without warning. Without conversation. I just left.”
“I also eliminated the download link even though they didn’t ask me,” Dark Space continued in the video itself. “But I think it’s smarter to go in front of them instead of waiting for their email that will never come … So why did they remove my video? … well, I guess the map is probably too precise.”
In a follow-up interview with Ign, Dark Space admitted that he had anticipated that Take-Two could respond to the way he did it based on the demolition of previous modifiers. “I entered this project knowing that it was a possibility,” he explained, “and the fact that it happened is not surprised.”
“I think my map could have ruined the surprise of his map, which I get,” he continued. “If you spent years building this incredible world of games just so that some youtuber spoil the experience of the shape, size and atmosphere of the map … I would like it to be eliminated.”
Take -Two has long been disagree with the GTA Modding community, more recently closing the Liberty City preservation project, an ambitious mod that adds a playable version of the GTA 4 to GTA5 map. In 2023, however, he hired CFX.RE: the team behind the popular modifications GTA 5 FIVEM and RDR2 REDM (and another group that previously faced Rockstar’s Wrath), which is currently working on an official “conversion tool” to take GTA 5 mods to the recently launched PC version of GTA 5 improved.
As for GTA 6, it is still aimed at the 2025 autumn launch window previously announced by Take-Two, despite the persistent reports of a delay, although a third-party accessories company recently said that the PC version will not reach the beginning of next year.
