Rege took 126 WICKETS with their deactivated in 52 first-class games between 1966-67 and 1977-78. He also scored 1532 races at an average of 23.56 in those games. After his career as a player, Rege associated with the Mumbai cricket Association (MCA) in several capabilities, including selector and selector chief in separate periods.
Both Mumbai and Vidarbha teams in the ongoing Ranji trophy semifinal in Nagpur observed a minute of silence before the start of the third day play in the Rege’s memory. Mumbai players, of which many obtained their first -class debuts when it was a selection chair, carried black bands.
“Deeply saddened when listening to the death of Milind Rege Lord,” said MCA President Ajinkya Naik, in a statement. “An unconditional of Mumbai cricket, his contributions as a player, selector and mentor were invaluable. His guide shapes generations of cricket players, and his legacy will be appreciated forever. His soul rests in peace.”
Rege was also the childhood friend of Sunil Gavaskar. Both attended the same school and university. The couple also played together at Dadar Union Sporting Club. Rege had also suffered a heart attack during his game days, at the age of 26, but returned to the sport next season. Since 2020, he was an advisor in MCA.
