Seattle – Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald has given the veteran field marshal Smith Smith another strong support.
And this time, he not only said that he wants Smith to remain the headline of the team in 2025. In an interview with Fox 13 TV in Seattle, Macdonald responded affirmatively when asked if he hopes that this is the case.
“Yes. Devils yes, man,” Macdonald said. “Geno is our field marshal. I do not understand the conversation. It is quite obvious that this guy is a great field marshal. He is our field marshal. We love him. We cannot wait to work with him.”
Macdonald himself has fed some of Smith’s speculation, even if it is involuntarily. At the end of the season, he was asked how involved this season will be in the situation of the Smith contract, and the two parties are expected to try to resolve an extension when the field marshal enters the last year of his agreement. Macdonald praised Smith but spoke in non -definitive terms that seemed to convey uncertainty about whether Smith would remain a Seahawk.
“I want Geno to be here,” Macdonald said on January 7. “I think he is a player of a player … I feel that Geno is the best for the team at this time. I will be involved with him. Finally, ultimately, finally, ultimately, it is not my decision.
Smith, 34, comes from another season of mixed bags in which he held the 21st position in QBR total while carrying an offensive with a surpassed line and without a consistent career game. He broke his own franchise records for aerial yards with 4,320 (fourth in the NFL) and the end rate at 70.4% (fifth), and also led four winning units of the game. But Smith launched 15 interceptions (third most) in 17 games compared to 21 touchdown passes, and took 50 captures (third more).
Smith will win $ 31 million next season, which includes a bonus of the $ 16 million list that expires on March 16. Its limit number is $ 44.5 million.
Smith took the Seahawks to a 10-7 record in the first season of Macdonald’s as a chief coach, which left them a place outside the NFC playoffs. Macdonald dismissed the offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and replaced him with Klint Kubiak.
“We have had many conversations that are not football, to keep it legal, during the last month or so,” MacDonald told the television station, referring to Smith. “And I know he is really excited that Klint takes care. This guy, is a great player, man. And we can win a championship with Geno Smith. We really believe that and we cannot wait to return to work with him.”
