The vibrant and chaotic marriage platformer It Takes Two has purchased more than 20 million copies since its 2021 release.
This means that the game has sold an additional 4 million copies since March of this year, when developer Hazelight Studios announced that the game had sold 16 million.
At that time, Hazelight noted that the total number of It Takes Two players was already 30 million, thanks to the sport’s alternative availability on subscription services and products like Game Pass.
“You are the best fans in the world, the way you have embraced our game blows us away,” Hazelight wrote today, sharing the sport’s actual sales milestone.
“We are so grateful to each of the millions and millions who have enjoyed their time with Cody and May.”
Meanwhile, It Takes Two director Josef Fares (yes, from that Oscar rant) said the sport’s new milestone was “beyond [his] wildest dreams!”
It Takes Two was initially announced on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, before winning Game of the Week at the 2021 Game Awards. It was therefore cleared in Transfer in 2022 and, more recently, it was said that the game was going to have a film adaptation, with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson involved.
“If you can ignore the story, It Takes Two has some of the best co-op gameplay in years,” our Bertie wrote in Eurogamer’s It Takes Two review, recommending the game.
“This is a rare kind of cooperative experience, with an energy, imagination and fun that sometimes rivals that of Nintendo,” he wrote. “As a toy, it can be a joy and will create unforgettable cooperative moments.”
