Manchester United’s Maya Le Tissier wants to ‘cement her place’ in England squad

Le Tissier became the youngest player to collect 100 Women’s Super League appearances in United’s 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday.

He hopes to push forward to reach a century of international caps for England, but his priority is to seal a place in the team for the defense of their European crown in 2025.

“It would mean everything. It would be an absolute dream. Playing a big tournament with England is what we all dream of,” mentioned Le Tissier.

“I’ve been very close but still very far, and I definitely need to improve my game. I will do everything I can this season to get there. It would be super special.”

England’s preparations for Euro 2025 begin this Friday when they take on Germany (kick-off 19:30 BST) at Wembley Stadium, a repeat of the overall from two years ago.

Le Tissier watched the Lionesses’ 2022 squad from the stands as United teammate Ella Toone scored en route to England’s victory.

This season, Le Tissier was named captain of Manchester United and Toone was named vice-captain.

“At that time I wasn’t even close to being part of the England team. After that, I was called up for some training camps,” Le Tissier mentioned.

“That summer I was signing for United. When Tooney scored that goal, I thought, ‘She’s going to be my teammate!’

“Toone always shows up at the big moments, you’ll always agree with her. I was just watching from the stands and it was really special.”
