England goalkeeper Mary Earps has made history by becoming the first professional footballer to be honored with a wax figure at Madame Tussauds.
The Paris Saint-Germain stopper won an overwhelming majority in a public vote to determine which Lionesses star should receive a figure in the London attraction.
Madame Tussauds said it had been collaborating with the 31-year-old for more than a year before the official launch on Sunday, which was attended by dozens of fans.
The Nottingham-born player, who joined family and friends for the event, said the opening was “incredibly special”.
Earps, who led England to the Euro 2022 title and was awarded an MBE in May, joins the likes of Sir David Attenborough, Emmeline Pankhurst, Stormzy and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The new figure is dressed in the kit she wore in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final.
“Making this mark as the first female footballer to have a figure in Madame Tussauds London is incredibly special,” Earps said.
“This is not about me. It is a representation of how women’s football has grown and the trajectory it is following.
“Seeing my friends, family and fans’ reactions to the figure is absolutely amazing, they couldn’t believe how accurate the features are; neither can I if I’m honest.
“My grandmother is especially surprised by all of this and I am very happy that she can share this moment with me.”
Steve Blackburn, general manager of Madame Tussauds London, added: “Mary is a pioneer both on and off the pitch who has inspired millions with her exceptional talent and dedication. It is an honor to celebrate her achievements with her first figure.”
The Earps figure will be on display at the Madame Tussauds Baker Street site starting Friday.
