Morrell began his career at Bristol City, playing a few senior games and then coming through the youth ranks, having successful loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Lincoln City before embarking on a long journey to the Luton town in 2020.
He left Kenilworth Road the following season, making just 11 appearances, to join Portsmouth, the first club where he “found a home in football”.
“In an ideal world, I would have loved nothing more than to stay at Pompey and hopefully help them in the Championship,” Morrell added.
“But I also appreciate that they have to make difficult decisions and that they have a budget that is not huge for a Championship club.
“I felt like I could have contributed this year, but they brought in 15 players and in order to do that, it was a matter of me not being there. I understand”.
Morrell, who has also done some of his work in the past with the Football Association of Wales’ clinical staff, believes he is missing some opportunities to engage in comprehensive training.
Therefore, he hopes to be able to sign for an impeccable club soon, although for now it is not clear where he could be.
Wrexham have been touted as admirers over the summer, and Morrell would “definitely be interested” if Phil Parkinson came calling.
“In the Football League there aren’t many more interesting projects than Wrexham,” he added.
“To be fair, I don’t think they need much help right now.”
If the immediate objective is to define his club for the moment, Morrell also has his sights set on Wales.
