The defender of the Republic of Ireland, Jimmy Dunne, said his debut for his country “feels like a long time.”
Dundalk’s native won his first international cap when he left the bank to help the Republic of Ireland to obtain a 2-1 victory against Bulgaria at home in the play-off of the B League of his nations, and an aggregate victory of 4-2.
The 27 -year -old was delighted to finally make his international reverence after entering the Irish senior configuration for the first time in 2018 and having previously rejected the opportunity to declare for Northern Ireland.
“I am not ashamed to admit that it is one of the most proud moments of my life: my mother and my family were there, so I am incredibly proud,” he told BBC Sport Ni.
“Days like today realize that I’m glad that nothing has changed [in switching international allegiances]And I stayed with that. Now I am 27 years old, but I hope to have a long race and there are many more possibilities to play for my country.
“Sometimes I had to park it at the bottom of my mind [playing for the Republic of Ireland]But I have known that I have always wanted to do it. It is a marker but I want to kick. “
The Queens Park Ombudsman praised the Irish chief Heimir Hallgrimsson for giving his debut in the Play-Off’s back of promotion/descent and by the council that the Icelandic coach has given him during this camp.
“There was a lot of at stake tonight, so it could have been very easy for the manager to stick to what he knows, but he has trusted me a lot, and he has guided me,” Dunne added.
The defender believes that the Republic is moving in the right direction before the World Cup qualifiers from September.
“I have not been part of this group before and there have been many criticisms, but I don’t think there has been any hangover of the England game [in November]We are really together, and we really believe, so there is no reason why these boys can’t start and do wonderful things. “
