Boston – The Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla confirmed on Sunday a ESPN report that Jaylen Brown received pain management injections during the week to help his problematic right knee.
Brown’s minutes had decreased the last month or so while trying to overcome the injury. The MVP of the Queenant Finals remained out of Friday’s victory over Charlotte and the victory of Sunday 93-86 over the Hornets at the end of the regular season was lost.
“Only part of the rehabilitation process so that he is the best possible,” said Mazzulla. “He continues to take care and puts himself in a great position to be ready for the postseason.”
When asked if he was sure that Brown would be ready for the start of the playoffs, Mazzulla said: “One hundred percent.”
In Boston’s race to the last spring championship, Brown was his main defender against the top scorer of the opponents.
Mazzulla said it was the player’s decision to sit. In doing so, it became ineligible for the postseason awards because it will have less than the league threshold for the total games played.
“It was more, it makes that call,” said Mazzulla. “He knows his body better than anyone. He knows exactly where he is. He knows where he needs to get to be at his best for what matters most. The most important thing is to trust him.”
The Celtic Payton Pritchard guard said the team is ready to go with or without Brown.
“If you are able to play, we move on and play. We know how to play with Him. Obviously, it is one of our boys,” said Pritchard. “If it does not, the boys will have to intensify and fill them in different areas. Our team is well balanced and very deep.”
