Jacksonville, Fla. – The chief coach of the Jaguars, Liam Coen, hired the coach/game of the coach of the Green Bay Packers, Anthony Campanile, to be the defensive coordinator of the team.
“Anthony Campanile represents exactly what we want to be as a defensive unit and football team,” Coen said in a statement on Thursday. “It brings an aggressive defensive mentality and a system that is adaptable to our players and allows them to play fast and physical.”
In addition to Campanile, Coen interviewed Las Vegas’s defensive coordinator, Patrick Graham, the Minnesota Pass game coordinator/the Daronte Jones defense coach and the Los Angeles Rams Pass game coordinator/Los Angeles Rams Pass/Coach in Chief Assistant Aubrey pleasant.
Campanile, 42, has spent the last five seasons as an assistant NFL coach, first with the Miami Dolphins as a supporter coach (2020-23) and then with the Packers last season.
The Packers occupied the seventh place in the NFL in defense by land at 99.4 yards per game allowed and third in the league in yards per haul (4.0) this season. In the four seasons of Campanile in Miami, the Dolphins gave an average of 4.2 yards per haul (tenth in the NFL) and 106.4 yards per game, the sixth best mark in that period.
Campanile spent six seasons as coach of high school in New Jersey, including five seasons in Don Bosco Prep, three as a defensive coordinator, two as an offensive coordinator, before joining Rutgers as a defensive assistant in 2012. He also trained closed wings and receivers in His four seasons in Rutgers.
Campanile also spent three seasons in Boston College (2016-18) and one in Michigan before joining Brian Flores staff in Miami.
