That Sleeping Dogs movie that Simu Liu joked earlier this week could be a little further in the development of what we thought.
The life of a sleeping dog movie is not easy; While it has been obvious for a while since a sequel never arrived, there was hope that I could find a new life as a film, with Donnie Yen (IP Man, Star Wars: Rogue One) originally destined to star in it. Near the beginning of the month, the actor shared that, as it turned out that this film is not happening, even though it apparently put a lot of work for the game to adapt. And then there was a turn earlier this week than Simu Liu, better known for his role as the owner Shang-Chi in the MCU, he shared that he was “working with the rights holders to take sleeping dogs to the big screen ” Now, as shared in an IGN report, it seems that the film is more advanced than only that.
According to a source close to the project that spoke with IGN, the film is currently under development, and Liu himself is ready to produce the film, as well as play the main role of Wei Shen. The details seem to be quite scarce apart from that, so we will have to wait and see if Square Enix, editor of the original game, makes some announcement. Presumably, the film will be produced by the original film, the study that was established to make the original adaptation with yen in the main role, unless adaptation rights have changed to another study.
Sleeping Dogs originally came out in 2012, and was received with positive criticism practically in all areas. It often compared with Grand Theft Auto, although in Hong Kong, and although it is loved by fans, some high sales expectations of Square Enix meant that a sequel never materialized. The fingers crossed for all fans that a film adaptation could make a sequel made!
