Indianapolis: It is not often a player leaves a 40 -yard race time in the combination of NFL exploration and is not yet as fast as he expected.
But that was the case on Saturday for the open receiver of Texas Isaiah Bond.
Bond ran an official time of 4.39 seconds in the 40 (its two races were not officially timed and initially shown to the crowd within the Lucas Oil Stadium as 4.40 and 4.41). A quality career, surely, but just less than Bond predicted on Friday, when he told reporters here that he would break the Xavier Worthy Combination record of 4.21, set last year.
Worthy, also a former Texas open receiver, was selected by Kansas City chiefs with the 28th of the NFL 2024 Draft last April.
“I’m going to break the record tomorrow, surely,” Bond said on Friday. “I anticipate running 4.20 or possibly, if I feel great, I could run 4.1”.
When asked later on Friday, what separated it from some of the other receptors in this draft class, Bond added: “What separates me from the rest of the draft class is pure speed. There is no receiver that has the speed and capabilities I have. It is not just the speed; I am a complete receiver. I have incredible routes. If you look at the tape, you will see it.” “” “” “” “” “
Bond, who had said that his best 40 times in his training before the harvester was a 4.23, is the receiver No. 10 on the last great board of Mel Kiper Jr. for ESPN.
His teammate in Texas, Matthew Golden, ran a 4.29 second officer in the 40s, the fastest time among open receptors that were tested on Saturday. Dont’e Thornton Jr. De Tennessee ran the second 40 fastest with a 4.30, while Florida’s Chimere Dike’s and Jaylin Lane de Virginia Tech, tied in the third fastest in 4.34.
Bond’s time was tied for the rapid state with Jaylin Noel de Iowa State. Seven of the 10 receiver times were led by players outside the SEC.
Against UTSa last season, Bond registered faster than 22 MPH. The 2024 season ended with 34 trapped for 540 yards and five touchdowns.
