Viktor Antonov, the influential artist whose credits include Half-Life 2 and Dishonored, has died, according to his former colleagues.
Originally born in Bulgaria, Antonov moved to Paris when he was 17 years old. His first video game credit came in 1997 as a maps painter in Redneck Rampage. He joined Valve in the early 2000s, serving as art director in half life 2.
Several of Viktor’s former colleagues have resorted to social networks to pay tribute to the developer.
“Rip Viktor Antonov,” said Arkane’s founder, Raphael Colantonio, in X.
“I would like to tell you how much admiration I had for you, but they catch us in our lives until a smooth surprise hits us. You were fundamental for the success of Arkane Studios and an inspiration for many of us, also a friend with whom I have many good memories. “

The former valve writer, Marc Laidlaw, went to Instagram (filed by Lambdagen) to write: “I did not want to say much until I felt it was confirmed, but today I learned that Viktor Antonov, our visionary art leadership in HL2, has died. I have no details. Only sadness. Brilliant and original. He did everything better. “
After his time in Valve, Antonov joined Arkane as a visual director of Dishonored and the DLC of the game. He then served as additional art director at Wolfenstein: The New Order.
After this, he remained in Bethesda game Studios, working as a consultant at Fallout 4, Dishonored 2, Doom and Prey.
