‘If it’s the only place to play Mario, you buy it’: Former PlayStation boss reacts to $80 Nintendo games

The former PlayStation executive, Shawn Layden, has said that the first part of Nintendo is strong enough to mitigate the “label clash” of the $ 80 games.

Layden, who was president of the company’s world studies group when he left Sony in 2019, recently appeared in the Podcast Playerdiven to discuss, among other issues, Nintendo Switch 2.

Layden, who has been Franco about the problems that the games industry has faced while trying to balance production costs with the expectation of playing players, shared his thoughts about Nintendo’s decision to set the price of Nintendo Switch 2 above $ 70

“They were scared through the roof of price elasticity, where we thought it did not exist before,” said Layden.

“It recently went to 70, and people went crazy, I think Nintendo is taking out the Bandaid and says’ it seems that it costs $ 80 for a first -line game on the new platform.”

Layden also argued how Nintendo takes advantage of his IP to deny some of the negative reactions to the price increase.

“But right here you see, ‘Wow, is it an increase in switch prices 1 to switch 2 wow, $ 80 for a game?’ Layden continued.

“If it is the only place where you can play Mario, then you take out your wallet and buy it.

“That type of first part mitigates the shock of the label, if you wish, of these price increases, because you want the bad content.”

Until now, Nintendo has confirmed the price of three games for the system, with the launch game Mario Kart World that costs $ 80, Donkey Kong Baniza with a cost of $ 70 and Nintendo Switch 2 Welcomme Tour costs $ 10.

Nintendo revealed more information about Nintendo Switch 2 last week.

It was announced that the system would cost $ 450 in the United States, with a Mario Kart World package ready to cost $ 500. This has been questioned a little after Nintendo announced that it would delay the early orders for the system due to the economic agitation of the radical tariffs of US President Donald Trump.

In the United Kingdom, the system will cost £ 395.99, with the Mario Kart World package that costs £ 429.99. In Europe, the system will cost € 469.99, with the Mario Kart World package with a cost of € 509.99. In Canada, the system will cost $ 629.99, with the Mario Kart World package that costs $ 699.99.
