half time report
The Nets and Celtics have entered the race, but their offenses certainly haven’t. After two quarters, neither team has the matchup in the bag, but the Nets lead 51-49 over the Celtics. This match is much closer than the pair’s previous matchup, which was decided by 50 points.
The Nets came into the game with extra motivation after the loss they suffered the last time these two teams met. We’ll see if they are able to turn the script around or if it will simply be more of the same.

What to know
The Nets have enjoyed a three-game homestand, but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will venture away from home to challenge the Boston Celtics at 7:30 pm ET on Friday at TD Garden. The Celtics are the favorites, but since the odds didn’t stop the Nets in their last game, perhaps the team has another surprise up its sleeve.
The Nets head into the showdown having notched their closest win since Jan. 27 on Monday. They sure made it exciting, but they managed to escape with a 106-104 win over the Grizzlies.
Meanwhile, the Celtics entered their game against the Warriors on Wednesday unbeaten at home, but there’s a first time for everything. The Celtics took a 118-112 hit in the loss column at the hands of the Warriors. The contest marked Boston’s lowest-scoring game so far this season.
The Celtics’ loss should not dampen the performances of Jayson Tatum, who scored 32 points, and Derrick White, who scored 26 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The matchup was Tatum’s fifth straight with at least 30 points. Jrue Holiday, on the other hand, was considerably less useful, going 0-for-6 from deep.
The victory brought Brooklyn back to a 4-4 tie. As for Boston, their loss ended an eight-game home winning streak dating back to last season and left them with a 7-2 record.
Keep an eye on the goal in Friday’s game: The Nets have made hitting deep shots look easy this season, averaging 14.4 three-pointers per game. It’s not like the Celtics have problems in that department, though, as they’ve averaged 19. Given these competing strengths, it will be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
The Nets suffered a tough 136-86 loss at the hands of the Celtics when the teams last played in February. That contest was virtually over by halftime, at which point the Nets trailed 68-32.
