Hogwarts Legacy expansion reportedly scrapped in Warner Bros. games overhaul

According to reports, Warner Bros. has canceled a planned expansion and the cutting version of Hogwarts Legacy director, as part of its video game restructuring.

According to Bloomberg, Warner decided to cancel the project due to the concerns that the amount of content he had planned would not justify the price that is being considered.

It is claimed that expanded Hogwarts would have presented new stories and launch at the end of this year. According to the reports, the original developer Avalanche was working on the expansion with Suicide Squad Studio Rocksteady.

Since its launch in 2023, Hogwarts Legacy has sold more than 34 million copies, which makes it one of the best -selling video games in history. Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that a sequel is in development and said that the project is one of its highest priorities.

Warner announced last month that he was closing three internal games development studies and canceling his Wonder Woman game, to focus on Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat and DC.

Middle Tierra: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War Studio Monolith Productions has closed, with its Wonder Woman game in development. The first Multiversus Studio Player games and the study focused on mobile devices WB San Diego, also closed.

The president of Warner Bros. Interactive, David Haddad, will leave his position after 12 years in the division, the company confirmed in January.

The announcement followed a challenging year for the Warner’s Games division, which included the commercial failure of the suicide team: Kill The Justice League and the disappointing relaunch of Multiversus.

“We have had to make some very difficult decisions to structure our development and investment studies around the construction of the best possible games with our key franchises: Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and game of Thrones,” said Warner Bros. last month.

“We greatly admire the passion of the three teams and thank each employee for their contributions. As difficult as today, we continue focused and excited to produce high quality games for our passionate fans and developed by our world -class studies and make our games return to profitability and growth in 2025 and beyond.”
