They are led by a Euro 2016 hero, have Giggs in their starting line-up and have a goalscorer that many at Manchester United are excited about.
As Wales’ new era continues under Craig Bellamy, the country’s next generation is taking a significant step forward in Scotland this week.
With some names that are already familiar to many and others that could still be familiar in the future, the Wales U19 team has begun its final European qualifiers.
Led by defender Chris Gunter, who earned 109 caps, their campaign began with a win against the hosts in Stirling.
They clearly impressed former Scotland midfielder Nigel Quashie, whose son, Arsenal’s Brayden Clarke, played at centre-back in the 1-0 win.
“This Welsh team has shown signs that this group of players is only going to improve,” he published in X , externalof a team, many of whom (including Clarke) reached the finals of the Under-17 European Championship last summer.
Clarke isn’t the only descendant of a former pro on the team; Zach Giggs was involved in Wales’ only goal when he donned the same dragon worn 64 times by his father, Manchester United great Ryan.
But, as Wales await matches against France (Saturday 16 November) and Liechtenstein (Tuesday 19 November) looking to advance to the elite round qualifying round in spring and then possibly the first major final of this category, They are not just the youngsters that Welsh football bosses hope can become top-level stars in the not-too-distant future.
