Finnish Film Tampere appoints first game director to “connect film and game creators”

The film commission of the Finnish city of Tampere region has appointed its first game director.

Arto Kayhko, a “veteran of mobile games and digital services,” will promote the region’s “fast-growing games industry on the international stage” as part of Film Tampere.

Kayhko will also be responsible for fostering closer ties with Finland’s gaming community and other digital content creation industries.

The first collaboration between films and games from the Tampere region is described as a cinematic action game project called Alma, jointly developed by Dreamloop Games and Making Movies. It is an adaptation of an upcoming film of the same name, set in Finland during World War II and centers on a teenage girl who gains superpowers and uses them to save her father from the front. Eighty years later, however, Alma “must pay the price.”

“We are immensely proud to have persuaded one of the brightest minds in Finland’s games industry to join our mission to create an integrated future for Tampere’s content creation industries,” said Film director Tampere, Fanny Heinonen.

“Arto brings with him a rare combination of experience spanning gaming, digital, international and finance, not to mention his talent for building relationships between stakeholders and creatives. As we work to unite our region’s creative communities, these are exactly the skills we need.” to merge and build solid associations and structures.

“With Arto’s help, we are a giant step towards fulfilling our mission of transforming Tampere into a world-class creative hub.”
