Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Says It Won’t Receive DLC, So Part 3 May Release Sooner

The director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth says he won’t be getting any major story DLC, as the focus is on finishing Part 3.

Following the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake in 2020, an upgraded PS5 version called Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was released that included a new DLC expansion called Episode Intermission.

In an interview with the Daily Star, Naoki Hamaguchi explained that while he knew fans of the series had been asking for a similar story DLC for Rebirth, it won’t happen because he feels they would prefer to have Part 3 first.

“We definitely heard the desire of the fans, the voices that want those kinds of things,” he explained.

“I completely understand it, but I think from my perspective, what fans really want to see isn’t necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as soon as possible.

“That’s why we’ve decided not to focus development resources on creating additional DLC episodes for the time being. We’re really putting all our efforts into getting the third game out as quickly as possible. At the moment, that’s where we focus our time.”

Earlier this year, Hamaguchi said he was confident that the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy will be one of the best video games ever created.

VGC’s review of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth calls it “an excellent role-playing game featuring some of the best characters in the gaming canon.”
