Achane was diagnosed with a concussion during Miami’s victory over the Pristine England Patriots in Future 5 and was routinely placed in the league’s return to participation protocol. He wore a pink non-contact jersey in the Dolphins’ first practice of the month on Monday, but removed the jersey and practiced in full on Wednesday and Thursday.
McDaniel said Achane’s full clearance depends on an investigation by a remote neurological consultant later in practice Friday, but he expects the second-year player to receive that clearance barring an unexpected setback. He was present during the portion of Friday’s practice visible to the media and gave the impression of being a complete player.
“Would I say I’m an optimist? Absolutely,” McDaniel said. “I don’t have a crystal ball. Something could happen today, but barring an event that can’t be predicted, I feel pretty good about it.”
The Dolphins are on the hook for a season-high 193 yards against the Patriots, with rookie Jaylen Wright and veteran Raheem Mostert combining for 163 of them.
Achane leads the team with 369 yards from scrimmage on a team-high 77 touches and is the only Dolphins player with more than one touchdown this season. He was once a rookie sensation with 997 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns in 2023.
