On Monday, 49ers schoolteacher Kyle Shanahan informed reporters that Samuel has a “pneumonia-like” problem and has fluid in his lungs. Shanahan proved that Samuel had pneumonia and provided a favorable update on Wednesday, via ESPN, announcing that he was now back at the team facility.
“He’s out of the hospital. He got here yesterday and he’s doing better than you would expect with those things, and we’ll see how he does throughout the week,” Shanahan said Wednesday.
The 49ers are set to host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football this month, and they will already be without wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who tore his ACL and MCL against Kansas Town. Big receiver Jauan Jennings was sidelined Sunday due to a bruised hip, tight end George Kittle is out every day with a sprained foot. Shanahan had a short and sweet answer Wednesday when asked if Samuel had a chance of playing games in the Class 8.
“Yes,” he stated.
Samuel has had 20 passes for 335 yards and one touchdown this season. He also ran 19 times for 51 yards and another score. Samuel had an immense 117-yard performance against the rival Seattle Seahawks on “Thursday Night Football” in Class 6, but is now struggling with some respiratory issues that could impact his availability for Class 8.
