David Moyes in 2025 New Year Honours: Former West Ham manager ‘not done yet’

David Moyes says he is not ready to retire from football management just yet, but is willing to be more discerning about the jobs he chooses in the future.

The 61-year-old Scot has been named an OBE in the New Year Honors list for his services to football, with a total of 697 Premier League appearances as manager second only to Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson.

His coaching career has spanned more than 1,100 games at six clubs, starting at Preston in 1998 before moving to Everton, Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham United.

Moyes has been out of the game since his second spell as Hammers boss ended in May. He has been linked with numerous jobs and has responded to a few proposals this season, but for now he is content to enjoy a break.

“I don’t consider it to be over yet, but I’m certainly enjoying some time off,” he told BBC Sport.

“The only thing I won’t do is put pressure on any coach personally, because I don’t believe in it. I haven’t liked being in that position.

“We’re all getting a little older and I have to make sure I’m doing what’s right for me.

“Football is in my blood. It has been since I was a child. I love watching football and I have enjoyed my career.

“If there’s another part, so be it. But I’d just like it to be a good part. I wouldn’t want to go in and do something that’s too difficult.”

“I don’t want to be last in the league and fight against relegation, something I’ve had several times, so we’ll see how things go.”
