Darius Slay is a free agent for the first time in his career of 12 years after his launch by the Philadelphia Eagles, however, there is an opportunity that former corner All-Pro can return.
Slay opened about the possibility of returning to Philadelphia for his last season in his podcast this week, discussing his release of the team with which he has just won a Super Bowl a month ago.
“It’s part of the business and no, I’m not hurt by that,” Slay said. “I’m not sad about that. This is what I enrolled for. I knew I gave that team everything I had, I gave that organization everything I had. So it is always a possibility.
“This time, I am grateful to be able to get ahead of free agency if I find a good destiny for me. But hopefully, we will see how the Eagles do. If the Eagles do something pleasant, they know that I would love to return. They know it. They know it.”

Slay comes from one of his best seasons, since opposite field marshals signed up for him competed only 47.1% of his passes in the regular season. Although Slay did not have an interception, it allowed a 63.6 pin rating as the main coverage defender, registered 13 pass breaks and allowed only two touchdowns. He also published better better in the completion rate (47.1%), allowed yards (371), completions of more than 20 yards (three), first allowed attempts (15) and pass rupture rate (19.1%). In the playoffs, Slay allowed a 70.1 pin qualification and had an interception with four pass ruptures when the Eagles won the Super Bowl Lix.
Slay indicated that he wanted to play one more season at the NFL, which would be his 13th and last season. He turns 35 on January 1.
“I know I’m 34 years old. I know I’m out of my best moment, but I’m still playing at an elite level,” said Slay. “It’s not that I can’t play, it’s just part of the business. [Eagles general manager Howie Roseman] He said we will see how things are shaken and we will do it. So possibly, I could turn the block as it did last time.
“He backed the block and a year, two years later, super bowl champions. We will see.”
