Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is set to start Sunday against the Chicago Bears despite suffering a rib concussion.
Daniels was listed as questionable to play, and the Commanders waited to see how he felt in pregame warmups Sunday before making the decision that he could start.
Daniels did not apply on Wednesday or Thursday, but was a restricted player on Friday and stopped by Washington’s practice on Saturday.
Daniels injured his rib in his first games from scrimmage in last Sunday’s win over the Carolina Panthers. He was replaced by Marcus Mariota, who completed 18 of 23 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns.
With Daniels enjoying himself, Sunday’s matchup represents a fight between the respective Disagrees. 1 and disagree. Two alternatives in the 2024 draft: Chicago quarterback Caleb Williams and Daniels.
Daniels presumably recognizes the value and utility of a match against Williams, as well as what the competition will do to Washington’s season. The Commanders (5-2) entered the NFC East’s first park on Sunday, a half-game ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles (4-2).
“He would want to play if his right leg was missing,” a trusted staff member told ESPN.
