What to know
The Cavaliers have enjoyed a three-game homestand, but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face the Charlotte Hornets at 1:00 pm ET on Saturday at the Spectrum Center. The Cavaliers have been making the ball drop more lately as they increased their point total in each of their last three games.
Last Thursday, the Cavaliers beat the Nuggets 126-114.
The Cavaliers’ success was the result of a balanced attack in which several players stepped up, but Evan Mobley led the charge by nearly posting a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. What’s more, Mobley also accumulated three 3-pointers, the most he has made since February. Another player who made the difference was Caris LeVert, who was 7 of 11 and added 21 points plus six assists.
The Cavaliers worked as a unit and finished the game with 32 assists. The team has really been improving in that area: they have now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, the Hornets’ recent slump got a little tougher Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They found themselves reluctant to take a punch in the gut 125-101 against the Knicks. Charlotte was up 20-7 in the first but couldn’t maintain the lead.
Cleveland’s victory was its third in a row at home, raising its record to 20-3. As for Charlotte, its loss dropped its record to 6-16.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: the Cavaliers have had no problem running up the score this season, having averaged 122 points per game (they rank first in overall scoring). However, it’s a different story for the Hornets, as they have averaged just 107. The only thing standing between the Cavaliers and another offensive loss is the Hornets. Can they keep them contained?
Looking ahead, the game looks promising for the Cavaliers, as the team is 13 points ahead. This game will be the eighth in a row as a favorite (so far in this stretch they have a 5-2 record against the spread).
