Street Fighter 6: Capcom’s Ambitious Sales Target.

Previous tittles Street Fighter V sold 7 million copies to date. However, Capcom’s president Haruhiro Tsujimoto has high ambition for the upcoming game’s success. Tsujimoto said In an interview with Famitsu, they had no qualms about investing in the Street Fighter series because it is their flagship game. Multiple titles in the company’s Resident Evil series have sold over 10 million copies, while the Monster Hunter series is currently aiming for a 20 million copy sales milestones.

Capcom plans to leverage their digital sales experience to reach their sales target for Street Fighter 6. Tsujimoto stated that the game developer plans its sales strategy for up to three years after the game’s original release date, as around 80% of their game sales are now in digital format.


Before digital versions became the norm, most games sold were physical copies that were shipped to stores. Due to shelf efficiency, only as many copies as could be sold within six months were shipped, limiting the possibility of selling games beyond that period. However, the rise of digital purchases in recent years has changed this scenario.

Tsujimoto also noted that the payback period for development is typically around two years, which is why they have set a three-year period for selling titles. The company believes that there is still value in selling games beyond the third year, even at a lower unit price.

Street Fighter 6 will be released on June 2 with a roster of 18 characters. Capcom has big plans for it. Street Fighter V is the best-selling game in the series in terms of home console sales, still growing it’s sales.
